Mickey Thomas produced one of Wrexham’s greatest-ever moments in the 1992 FA Cup third round against reigning league champions Arsenal at the Racecourse Ground; with Fourth Division Wrexham trailing 1–0 late on, the 37-year-old Welshman smashed a magnificent free-kick past David Seaman in the 82nd minute to equalise, before Steve Watkin scored the winner just two minutes later to complete an astonishing 2–1 victory; Wrexham had finished bottom of the Football League the previous season, while Arsenal were English champions, making the result one of the greatest FA Cup shocks of all time, with Thomas’s spectacular free-kick becoming an enduring piece of club folklore.
