Carlos Tevez had only one season at West Ham, in 2006–07, but it was unforgettable. After a difficult start, he became the key figure in the club’s fight against relegation. West Ham’s own retrospective credits him with seven goals and five assists, and he was named the club’s Hammer of the Year for that campaign. Most importantly, he scored the winner in a 1–0 victory at Manchester United on 13 May 2007, the result that kept West Ham in the Premier League. His spell was also tied to the controversial third-party ownership case, so his legacy is dramatic, brilliant, and slightly complicated.
