Leon Britton became a Swansea City legend during a remarkable association with the club spanning the rise from the bottom of the Football League to the Premier League; initially joining on loan from West Ham in 2002, the diminutive midfielder was renowned for his intelligence, composure and exceptional passing, helping Swansea avoid relegation from the Football League in 2003 before contributing to three promotions and their arrival in the Premier League in 2011; perfectly suited to Swansea’s possession-based style, Britton also played a key role in the 2013 League Cup triumph, and apart from a brief spell at Sheffield United, spent virtually his entire senior career with the Swans, making over 500 appearances.
