Bob Stokoe is one of the greatest figures in Sunderland A.F.C. history, forever remembered as the manager who masterminded the club’s famous 1973 FA Cup triumph. With Sunderland playing in the Second Division, Stokoe led the Black Cats on an extraordinary cup run before defeating the heavily favoured Leeds United 1–0 at Wembley through Ian Porterfield’s goal and Jim Montgomery’s legendary double save. Stokoe’s iconic celebration, running onto the Wembley pitch in his red tracksuit and trilby at full-time, became one of English football’s enduring images. His achievement secured his status as a Sunderland legend and remains central to the club’s proud history.
