On 17 October 2009, Sunderland A.F.C. beat Liverpool F.C. 1–0 at the Stadium of Light in one of Premier League folklore’s strangest moments. Darren Bent’s shot was heading straight at Pepe Reina, but clipped a red beach ball that had blown back onto the pitch and spun into the net. Mike Jones hadn’t seen the interference, so the goal stood, and he was later dropped for the following weekend. The beach ball now sits in the National Football Museum.
