Tony Pulis managed Stoke City across two spells between 2002 and 2013, transforming the Potters into an established Premier League club; his defining achievement came in 2007–08, when Stoke finished second in the Championship to secure promotion to the top flight after a 23-year absence; Pulis built a powerful, organised side featuring Ryan Shawcross, Robert Huth, Rory Delap and Matthew Etherington, with their physical style and Delap’s famous long throws making the Britannia Stadium a formidable venue; Stoke reached the 2011 FA Cup final, losing to Manchester City but qualifying for the Europa League, where they reached the knockout stages, before Pulis left in 2013 after five consecutive Premier League seasons.
