John McGinn emerged from St Mirren’s youth academy, making his first-team debut in 2012 and quickly establishing himself as an energetic, tenacious midfielder; still a teenager, he played an important role in Saints’ famous 2013 League Cup triumph, starting the 3–2 final victory over Hearts, and made nearly 100 appearances before joining Hibernian in 2015, with his development in Paisley providing the foundation for a career that later saw him captain Aston Villa and become a central figure for Scotland.
