Mick Neville was one of Shelbourne’s most important modern-era leaders. The defender joined the club in 1990 and became captain of the side that won the 1991–92 League of Ireland title, Shelbourne’s first league championship in 30 years. He then led Shels to the 1993 FAI Cup, their first win in that competition for three decades, and captained them again to back-to-back FAI Cups in 1996 and 1997. He also helped win the 1995–96 League Cup. Neville made 247 league appearances for Shelbourne, and his legacy is really about leadership, consistency and captaining the club back into major success.
