Tony Currie became a Sheffield United legend after joining from Watford in 1968, dazzling Bramall Lane with his flair, creativity and technical ability during one of the club’s most memorable eras; the charismatic midfielder helped the Blades win promotion to the First Division in 1970–71 and was central to their brilliant start to the following season, when United briefly topped the league; renowned for spectacular goals, audacious skill and his ability to control matches, Currie became a firm favourite with supporters and earned 17 England caps while at the club; he made more than 300 appearances for Sheffield United before moving to Leeds United in 1976, remaining one of the Blades’ greatest-ever players.
