Tony Currie is widely regarded as Sheffield United’s greatest ever player. The club has explicitly described him that way, named him its “Greatest Ever Player” in 2014, and even renamed a Bramall Lane stand in his honour in 2018. He played for the Blades from 1968 to 1976, making 313 appearances and scoring 54 goals, while combining flair, vision and long-range shooting from midfield. Currie was central to United’s promotion from the Second Division in 1970–71 and later became club captain in 1974. He also won 17 England caps, with the first coming while he was a Sheffield United player.
