Gary Twigg was one of the most important forwards of Shamrock Rovers’ modern revival. Signed in 2009, the Scottish striker became a prolific scorer and a central figure in the club’s success under Michael O’Neill. He scored the first ever goal at Tallaght Stadium, finished as the League of Ireland’s top scorer in 2009 and 2010, and ended his Rovers spell with 88 goals in 160 appearances, including 81 league goals. Twigg helped Rovers win back-to-back league titles in 2010 and 2011, plus the 2011 Setanta Sports Cup, and played in their historic 2011–12 Europa League group-stage campaign.
