Ray Wilkins became an influential figure at QPR after joining from Rangers in 1989, bringing vast experience from Manchester United, AC Milan and the England national team to Loftus Road; the elegant midfielder, nicknamed “Butch,” was renowned for his composure, intelligence and passing, helping Rangers finish fifth in the inaugural Premier League season of 1992–93 under Gerry Francis; Wilkins later became player-manager in 1994, guiding QPR to an eighth-place Premier League finish in 1994–95, but the sale of Les Ferdinand and subsequent struggles contributed to relegation the following season; across his playing and managerial spells, Wilkins remained a highly respected figure among QPR supporters.
