Stan Bowles became a Queens Park Rangers legend after joining from Carlisle United in 1972, dazzling supporters at Loftus Road with his extraordinary skill, creativity, dribbling and larger-than-life personality; wearing the famous number 10 shirt, Bowles was the attacking inspiration of the outstanding QPR side that finished Second Division runners-up in 1972–73 and then came agonisingly close to winning the First Division title in 1975–76, finishing just one point behind Liverpool; alongside players such as Gerry Francis and Dave Thomas, he helped produce some of the finest football in the club’s history, scoring 97 goals in 315 league appearances before leaving in 1979 and becoming an enduring Rangers icon.
