Nwankwo Kanu became a Portsmouth legend by scoring the winning goal in the 2008 FA Cup final against Cardiff City at Wembley; in the 37th minute, Cardiff goalkeeper Peter Enckelman failed to deal with John Utaka’s cross and Kanu reacted quickest, turning the loose ball into the net to secure a 1–0 victory; managed by Harry Redknapp, Pompey held firm to win their first FA Cup since 1939, with players including David James, Sol Campbell and Lassana Diarra central to the triumph; Kanu had also scored the winner against West Brom in the semi-final, making the Nigerian striker the decisive figure in Portsmouth’s historic cup-winning campaign.
