Archie Gemmill became a key figure in Nottingham Forest’s golden era after joining from Derby County in 1977, reuniting with Brian Clough and Peter Taylor and bringing experience, tenacity and quality to midfield; he helped newly promoted Forest sensationally win the First Division title in 1977–78 and also collected a League Cup winners’ medal that season, forming part of the side that emerged as one of England’s dominant forces; the Scotland international—famous for his brilliant goal against the Netherlands at the 1978 World Cup—left Forest for Birmingham City in 1979, shortly before the club secured its second consecutive European Cup.
