Duncan Forbes became a Norwich City legend after joining from Colchester United in 1968, developing into the commanding centre-back and inspirational captain of one of the club’s most important eras; renowned for his toughness, leadership and uncompromising defending, the Scotsman captained the Canaries to the Second Division title in 1971–72, taking Norwich into the English top flight for the first time; Forbes also led the club to their first Wembley appearance in the 1973 League Cup final, where they lost narrowly to Tottenham, and remained a central figure at Carrow Road throughout the 1970s, making over 350 appearances before finishing his Norwich playing career in 1976.
