Duncan Forbes was one of Norwich City’s great defensive leaders. Signed from Colchester United in 1968, the Scottish centre-half became captain and helped take the club into the First Division for the first time in 1971/72. Tough, commanding and hugely respected, he also led Norwich out in their first major final, the 1973 League Cup final against Tottenham. Forbes made more than 350 appearances for the Canaries and later worked for the club off the pitch, strengthening his bond with supporters. He remains remembered as a proper Norwich hard man and a pillar of the club’s early top-flight era.
