Teddy Sheringham became a Millwall legend after coming through the club’s youth system and making his debut in 1984, developing into a prolific and intelligent striker; alongside Tony Cascarino, he spearheaded the Lions’ historic 1987–88 Second Division title-winning campaign, which took Millwall into the top flight for the first time, and he continued scoring heavily in the First Division as the club briefly challenged near the top; Sheringham finished as the Second Division’s leading scorer in 1990–91 and left for Nottingham Forest that summer, having scored 111 goals in 262 league appearances for Millwall, establishing himself as one of the club’s greatest-ever forwards before later starring for Tottenham and Manchester United.
