Livingston’s 1999–00 season was their first in the Scottish First Division after promotion and ended with a solid 4th-place finish. Ray Stewart began the campaign in charge, but he was sacked on 15 March 2000 and club stalwart Jim Leishman returned to the dugout. In the cups, Livi made their deepest run in the Challenge Cup, reaching the semi-finals, while exiting the League Cup in round two and the Scottish Cup in round four. David Bingham topped the scoring with 19 overall goals (15 league), with Brian McPhee also scoring 15 league goals. It set the platform for 2000–01 success.
