John Ward became a Lincoln City favourite during his playing career at Sincil Bank from 1970 to 1979, developing into a prolific striker and key member of Graham Taylor’s outstanding side; Ward scored more than 90 league goals for the Imps and was instrumental in the remarkable 1975–76 Fourth Division title-winning campaign, when Lincoln recorded 32 victories and scored 111 league goals; intelligent, hard-working and clinical in front of goal, he formed part of an exciting attacking team that established numerous divisional records before helping Lincoln compete strongly following promotion to the Third Division, and he later built a lengthy coaching and managerial career that included spells with Bristol City and Colchester United.
