Shinji Okazaki was an important part of Leicester City’s 2015–16 title-winning side, even if his contribution was less glamorous than Jamie Vardy’s or Riyad Mahrez’s. He made 36 Premier League appearances, missing only two matches, and scored 5 league goals. More importantly, Okazaki’s role was tactical: he usually operated just behind Vardy, pressing defenders, linking play, and doing the selfless running that helped Leicester’s counterattacking system function. He was not the star of the team, but he gave it balance, energy, and intelligence, making him one of the understated figures in Leicester’s most famous season.
