Stuart Elliott became a firm Hull City favourite after joining from Motherwell in 2002, with the Northern Ireland international providing goals, energy and versatility from midfield during the Tigers’ dramatic rise through the divisions; Elliott was particularly outstanding in 2004–05, scoring 27 goals in all competitions as Peter Taylor’s side secured promotion from League One to the Championship, completing back-to-back promotions after escaping the fourth tier a year earlier; dangerous arriving from midfield and renowned for his heading ability and powerful finishing, he scored 68 goals in 211 appearances for Hull before leaving in 2008, and his remarkable goalscoring contribution during the promotion years ensured his lasting reputation as one of the key players in the club’s transformation from lower-league strugglers into a side approaching the Premier League.
