Gary O’Connor emerged from Hibernian’s youth system as a powerful and prolific striker, making his breakthrough at Easter Road in the early 2000s and forming a memorable partnership with Derek Riordan; his pace, strength and finishing helped an exciting young Hibs side reach the 2004 League Cup Final and qualify for Europe, while his performances earned Scotland recognition and a move to Lokomotiv Moscow in 2006, before he returned to Hibs in 2011 and finished that season as the club’s leading scorer.
