Roy Hodgson was one of the most important managers in Fulham’s modern history. Appointed in December 2007 with the club in relegation trouble, he first kept Fulham in the Premier League, then guided them to a then club-record seventh-place finish in 2008–09. Fulham’s official history says his appointment “will surely be remembered as one of the most inspirational in Premier League history.” His greatest achievement at Fulham was the remarkable run to the 2010 Europa League Final, beating teams including Juventus, Wolfsburg, and Hamburg before losing 2–1 after extra time to Atlético Madrid in Hamburg. That run remains one of the biggest achievements in the club’s history. At Fulham, Hodgson is remembered for organisation, calm leadership, and taking the club to a level few expected.
