Chris Coleman was a major Fulham figure as both captain and manager. Signed in 1997, he quickly became club captain and led Fulham to promotion in 1998–99, then captained the side again during the 2000–01 First Division title season before a car crash ended his playing career. Fulham say he made 162 appearances and scored 11 goals for the club. He then moved into coaching, became manager in 2003, and guided Fulham clear of relegation before delivering a then club-record ninth-place Premier League finish in 2003–04. He is remembered as one of the key figures in Fulham’s rise under Mohamed Al-Fayed.
