Sir Alex Ferguson had an important early chapter of his playing career with Dunfermline Athletic, joining in 1964 and developing into a prolific centre-forward; his finest campaign came in 1965–66, when he scored 31 league goals as the Pars challenged strongly in the Scottish top flight, and his performances eventually earned him a move to Rangers in 1967; long before his legendary managerial career, Ferguson’s goals at East End Park established him among Dunfermline’s outstanding strikers of the 1960s.
