Derry City’s 2012 FAI Cup run ended in triumph, with the Candystripes beating St Patrick’s Athletic 3–2 after extra time in the final at the Aviva Stadium on 4 November 2012. It was Derry’s fifth FAI Cup win at the time and came in a dramatic match where Rory Patterson, on as a substitute, scored twice to turn the game. The winning goal arrived in extra time after a tense, back-and-forth final. In simple terms, the 2012 cup is remembered for late drama, Patterson’s impact off the bench, and Derry showing real resilience to edge one of the strongest sides in the league.
