Joe Ledley came through Cardiff City’s academy and became one of the club’s standout players of the 2000s, making his first-team debut in 2004 and going on to make more than 250 appearances; an energetic, versatile midfielder with a knack for important goals, Ledley was central to Cardiff’s memorable run to the 2008 FA Cup final, scoring the winner against Barnsley in the semi-final at Wembley before the Bluebirds lost narrowly to Portsmouth; a hometown favourite and established Wales international, he also helped Cardiff become regular Championship promotion contenders before leaving for Celtic in 2010, later returning for a brief second spell with the Bluebirds in 2021.
