Andy Campbell became part of Cardiff City folklore with his winning goal in the 2003 Second Division play-off final against Queens Park Rangers at the Millennium Stadium; with the match goalless deep into extra time, Campbell raced onto Scott Young’s pass and produced a superb lob over goalkeeper Chris Day in the 114th minute, securing a 1–0 victory and promotion to the First Division; the striker had joined Cardiff from Middlesbrough in 2002 and, although his overall spell was relatively brief, that single moment ensured his place in the club’s history, with his delicate Wembley-style finish in front of a huge home-city crowd remaining one of Cardiff’s most celebrated goals.
