Scott Murray became a Bristol City legend across two spells at Ashton Gate between 1997 and 2009, with the energetic Scottish winger renowned for his pace, goalscoring and passionate celebrations; his outstanding 2002–03 season produced 27 goals, an exceptional return from midfield, and helped City reach the Second Division play-offs, while after a brief spell with Reading he returned to Bristol and later played his part in Gary Johnson’s 2006–07 promotion-winning side; Murray made more than 400 appearances and scored over 90 goals for the Robins, with his commitment, personality and memorable goals establishing him as one of the club’s most popular modern-era players.
