Brian Shelley was a classy, left-sided defender who played an important part in two different Bohemians eras. He first joined Bohs in 2000 and was part of the side that won the 2000–01 League of Ireland title and the 2001 FAI Cup. After success elsewhere, he returned in 2009 and helped Pat Fenlon’s team win another league title, the League Cup, and the Setanta Sports Cup. Shelley was known for his composure on the ball rather than flash, and his 2009 form was strong enough to earn a place in the PFAI Team of the Year. In simple terms, he was a decorated and dependable Bohs defender.
