Mats Hummels had two Bayern Munich spells, making his story slightly unusual. He came through Bayern’s youth system but made only limited first-team impact before leaving for Borussia Dortmund in 2008. After becoming one of Germany’s best centre-backs there, he returned to Bayern in 2016 as an experienced leader. In his second spell, Hummels brought composure, positioning, aerial strength, and elite passing from the back. He won several Bundesliga titles, DFB-Pokals, and added defensive stability in big matches. Although some fans still linked him strongly with Dortmund, his Bayern return was successful and decorated. He left again for Dortmund in 2019.
