Johan Cruyff managed Barcelona from 1988 to 1996 and fundamentally rewired the club’s identity. He built the “Dream Team” around positional play: keep the ball, create overloads, press immediately after loss, and use width to open central spaces. Results matched the ideas—Barcelona won four consecutive La Liga titles (1990–91 to 1993–94), plus the club’s first European Cup in 1992 (Koeman’s extra-time winner at Wembley). Cruyff also institutionalised a style that fed into La Masia development and later influenced the Guardiola era. His tenure ended in 1996 after internal tensions and declining results, but the football blueprint endured.
