Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” goal came in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final against England. Early in the second half, Maradona leapt with goalkeeper Peter Shilton for a loose ball and secretly punched it into the net with his left hand. The referee and linesman did not see the handball, and the goal was allowed to stand. After the match, Maradona famously said it was scored “a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God.” The moment became one of football’s most controversial and iconic incidents, forever linked with the same match as his “Goal of the Century.”
