He established himself as Leicester’s first-choice goalkeeper during Jimmy Bloomfield’s entertaining era, playing alongside notable figures such as Frank Worthington, Keith Weller and Alan Birchenall. Wallington was a key member of the side that reached the 1973–74 FA Cup semi-finals and helped the Foxes win the 1976–77 First Division campaign’s seventh-place finish under Bloomfield. He remained loyal to Leicester through relegations and promotions, contributing to the club’s 1979–80 Second Division championship under Jock Wallace and its 1982–83 promotion under Gordon Milne. His longevity and reliability made him a reassuring presence at Filbert Street throughout a period of considerable change.
